Today I’ll be discussing a product which I’ve seen talked about on YouTube but never thought I would imagine myself picking up for myself. I say this since I figured I would make a lip scrub myself, rather than buy one. This is a lip scrub by Lush called Mint Julips which costs £5.50 and is available in two other flavours: Bubblegum and Popcorn. The one I have is meant to taste like mint chocolate, which is exactly my cup of tea, the bubblegum and popcorn ones, not so much. I first heard about these from watching KaeyiDream talk about it in her morning skincare routine video, where she prefers the bubblegum flavour and didn’t like the mint flavour. I gave a smell of all three before I picked one, and the popcorn just didn’t intrigue me, and the bubblegum was a bit too sweet for me. However, I love mint so I’m very happy with the choices since I did find one I liked.
The scrub is designed to buff dead and dry skin off the lips to leave fresh happier lips afterwards. I don’t have particularly dry lips, however they can flake from time to time so I planned on using this on rare occasions when my lips needed it. In practice, I use this almost every day since they are very generous with how much they give you. I expected the little jar to be filled about half to three quarters of the way, but no. It is full. So I can happily use this everyday (if I remember) and not feel like I’m going to run out any time soon.
It doesn’t have a strong taste of mint or chocolate, which is good for anyone who prefers milder taste, but I’m more concerned about how well it works to scrub my lips. When used dry on the lips it can take a while to really buff the lips properly since it is a dry texture, but if you lick your lips to add some moisture and then buff, it works a lot better. Like I said before, I don’t have particularly dry lips, however after I lick away or use a tissue to remove the grains, my lips feel a lot smoother and slightly plumper, especially if I use around a minute to two minutes to scrub my lips properly.
I like that I don’t have to commit too much time to using this daily to get results from this. I tend to use this before I start cleansing my skin, so I can exfoliate my lips and then use a lip balm of some kind to moisturise my lips afterwards, and go through my skin care routine afterwards to give the lip balm time to settle before I think about my makeup (if I decide to wear any).
Overall, I don’t have any complaints about this product. Although I didn’t ‘plan’ to buy a product like this since you can easily make your own lip scrub using some sugar with honey or olive oil, I don’t regret this purchase since it saves me from the mess of making it myself, and doesn’t break the bank either. Another great benefit is that the use-by date of this product is roughly a year, whereas if you made one yourself with just sugar and honey/olive oil, you would have to use it up pretty quickly. Lush have been making changes to their products recently so they use natural preservatives instead of chemicals, which is great for the environment conscious or anyone who’s taking care with what they use on their bodies.
Would you consider using a product like this? Or have you tried this before? I’d love to hear your thoughts, and thank you for taking time to read my post. It means a lot me.
