Happy Monday! 3 months have flown by, as it’s time to round-up all of my progress from my project pan throughout July to September 2019. If you want to get an idea of exactly what my goals were, checkout my post where I outlined my goals, which also includes some of my expectations at the very beginning.
As this is the end of a project pan portion, this means that tomorrow I will be starting a new one, where I’ll be outlining my goals and expectations for October to the end of December. This also means that my normal schedule for my monthly empties and products I’m passing on posts from the previous month are pushed forward, so this week is going to be a content-heavy week.
With all of that out of the way, let’s jump straight in!
Products Brought Forward:
Before I get super distracted, let’s address the products that I brought forward from my pre-move project pan. There were 2 products for this section, which is a nice number, in my opinion.
The first product in question is the GOSH Brow Kit, which was originally in my pre-move project pan just to see what my long-term progress would look like. I didn’t have serious intentions of using it up, but was really intrigued to see how long it would take me to work through the pans of powder.
I was continuing to make progress through the pans, but on 7th September, I stopped trying to use it up. The powders stopped being as pigmented as they used to be, and the texture was beginning to change, so I decided at that point it was time to move on.
I don’t plan to repurchase this product any time soon, as I only used half of the product included, but I did enjoy it while I had it. However, if you like to dye your hair or use more than one or two brow powder shades, this is worth picking up. It has lasted me years and as you can see above, I only made a small dent on the pan itself.
The second product I brought forward into this project pan was the Essence of Beauty Lilies & Freesia Fine Fragrance Body Mist. I was fairly close to finishing it in my pre-move project pan, but a week without it meant I didn’t quite finish the bottle. I used this on the 3rd of July, so only a couple of days into this project.
I loved this little fragrance mist, and if it were readily available to me, I would pick this up again, and look at other scents. Sadly, as this is what I picked up during my Canada and America Haul back in 2016, I’m going to have to wait until my next trip across the pond.
Products I Emptied:
So let’s work in chronological order: on the first day of my project pan, I was really surprised to have emptied the Bourjois 1 2 3 Perfect CC Eye Cream. I was anticipating it taking maybe a month to finish up. But when I was using it on the 1st of July to do my makeup that day, it suddenly stopped twisting up product, with only the clicking of the mechanism turning.
This was a really pleasant and motivating surprise for me, especially as Bourjois as a brand are still not cruelty-free, so it felt really satisfying to move on to a new concealer. I also felt really relieved to know I didn’t waste the product, as I hate waste.
On the 7th of July, I finished up one of my desk buddies. I added the Botanics All Bright Refreshing Eye Roll-On to my project pan with the anticipation that I would eventually finish it up over the 3 month period.
A lot of tube products like that one can be quite deceiving, as they can feel very full for a long time, then suddenly you push out a bunch of air and there’s almost no product left. This is the case with this product, so I worked through it really early on in the project in spite of my expectations.
Moving to a makeup product, I finished up the NYX Epic Ink Eye Liner in ‘Brown‘ on the 13th of July. This is another product that I assumed I’d use up in the relatively near-future, including the time frame of this product pan. I’d been using it for quite a while already, and figured I had made a fair amount of progress already.
This turned out to be true, and overall I enjoyed my experience using this liner. I have reviewed both shades, and still have the black shade in my collection.
Another desk buddy I worked through is the Deep Action Mattifying Shine Control Papers. This is one I included knowing that my no-makeup days aren’t super frequent, and my memory also tends to fail me to remember to use blotting papers on those infrequent days I’m not working face makeup.
I used this particular batch up on 27th July, so it did take a little bit of time, but still fairly early relative to the timeline of this project. I picked up more of these in the updated packaging and formulation, so I do enjoy these.
The product I was most intrigued to work through was an eyeshadow from the Collection Work the Colour Nude Eye Palette, which I de-potted into a magnetic palette. Eyeshadows are one of those categories of makeup that I typically like to keep relatively open to change, but when I hit pan on the taupe-y shade photographed above, I was really eager to empty it entirely.
As you can see above, I didn’t completely empty the pan, but I did use it daily until the eyeshadow was no longer performing like it used to. So I feel quite satisfied with my progress. It also really invigorated my creativity after restraining myself for a while. I stopped using this eyeshadow on the 27th August.
One product I abandoned is the Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in ‘Pink Blossom‘. I anticipated this being a product I picked up and used on the days I needed to leave the house, for a touch of colour on my lips, and some moisture to go with it.
The formula itself is quite comfortable, but I found I didn’t get any colour on my lips from this shade, and the other 2 I picked out. I stopped using this on the 29th of August, and if I hadn’t used this during a period when I was unwell, I would have passed this on to mum. Ultimately I wasn’t enjoying the experience of using it, so I decided it wasn’t worth the effort anymore. I really enjoy having some freedom with my lip products, so that’s something I’ll be bearing in mind going forward.
On the 31st of August, I used up the EGLIPS Multi Unique Sun Block SPF 50 PA+++, which was my on-the-go sunscreen for quite a long time. As I work from home, I don’t leave the house on a daily basis, so my progress through my face and body sunscreens is quite slow. This will eventually change when I’m in a position to bring a dog into my household, but for the time being, it means using sunscreens up is a genuine challenge.
Lastly, on 29th August, I finished up the L’OREAL Brow Artist Plumper. I was genuinely surprised to use this up at all in this project. It’s tricky to really track the progress, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if this product lasted another month.
As it’s not a cruelty-free product, I am relieved to use it up though.
Products Being Brought Forward:
While I feel like I did incredibly well with my goals, there were a few products I didn’t finish up, which will be featured in tomorrow’s goals. Starting with the Super Facialist Tea Flower Deep Clean Pore Purifying Clay Mask.
This is a product I made some decent progress with, being about halfway done. I was hoping to use it up entirely, but I still enjoy using this mask so I don’t mind that I still have a lot left.
In contrast, I made only a small amount of progress through the Quick Fix Facials Mega Moisture Gel Mask. I’m still less than halfway through this tube, which isn’t really surprising to me in hindsight. I use this on my cheeks and jaw, so I knew I was only using small amounts of product at a time. It’s possible that as we move in to autumn and winter though, that I use up more.
However, I won’t be surprised even if takes longer than the next project pan to finish it up. One of the things I tend to be quite good at is making products last a long time, so I get really good value for money. This feels like it’s one of those products.
Lastly, I made significant progress with it, but I didn’t quite use up the Witch Naturally Clear Blemish Gel. I do think I’m very close to finishing it though, so this is one I can say with a lot of certainty will be included as a successful empty in tomorrow’s goals.
This concludes the round-up for the July 1st to September 30th project pan. It was quite a fun experience, but I’m relieved to be recycling the packaging now that we’re at the end. I will give you guys a thorough post tomorrow for my goals for October 1st to December 31st, so keep an eye out for that post!
