It’s technically not February yet, but since we’re less than a day away, I want to talk about my favourites from January. I haven’t written a monthly favourites in a while, and that’s because I typically like to play with lots of different makeup products throughout the month and don’t often stick to a single product for any given step. However, I have had a trend this month and I wanted to give some credit to those products that stood out to me.
The only skincare product I want to mention is the Superdrug Vitamin E Moisture Mask, which sat in my benched box for a while. I talked about not being sure when I’d pull this product out as the formula was on the heavier side compared to what I personally like. When I was writing that post, I was expecting to pull it out when my current moisturising face mask ran out so it could sit in the bathroom, but I decided to pull this out and experiment with the mask again and see if my opinion changed. While I do still think the texture is heavier than I’d personally like, what drew me in was that it absorbed relatively quickly, especially for a face mask.
So for a little while now I’ve been using this as part of my night time routine where I apply this to my cheeks and jawline, then pat it into the skin. Any remaining product on my hands I then pat into my neck. Doing this has completely turned this product around and particularly as we’re expecting the a colder week coming up, this may be what my skin needs to cope.
Since decluttering my lipstick collection down pretty heavily, my makeup stand looks pretty bare when it comes to lip products. This let’s me really devote my attention to one or two lip products at a time, which includes the GOSH Velvet Touch Lipstick in the shade ‘002 Matt Rose‘. The lighting in my photo is a tad misleading, as this shade is a gorgeous medium- rose pink and for my lips it’s the ideal my-lips-but-better shade. This is a lipstick I like to pull out for days when I want to stick to my natural lip colour but just want my lips to look a bit more polished and put together.
If I could change one thing it would be to make the formula slightly more satin-based and less matte, that would make this product as close to perfect as physically possible for me. But I happily grab this lipstick to apply over moisturised lips as that gives that effect for me instead. I only mention this tiny detail as it’s what prevents me from reapplying often throughout the day as it starts to feel dry and uncomfortable. I have a personal pet peeve about getting my lipstick product colour on my lip balms, so lip products that can be applied without the help of a lip balm really sit well with me. I still adore this product though and really, this gripe is so minor, I only mention it to give a balanced mini-review. I have no plans to declutter this product.
I’ve been really committed to using one or two eyeliners lately, including the GOSH Velvet Touch Eyeliner in the shade ‘Truly Brown‘. If the state of this liner doesn’t indicate how much I love this product, I don’t know what will. I’ve been gradually working through this eyeliner for at least a year, but in the past couple of months, I’ve been using this nearly every time I wear makeup.
This is purely down to personal taste, but I adore the creamy formula as it makes it easy to glide over the eyelid without tugging. I think there’s credit to harder formulas, but I hate it when products tug on my skin: so for me, creamier formulas work better for me and I don’t mind working around them. It’s easy to apply a thicker line that I’d prefer, but for me, practice makes perfect and I’ve learned how to work around it.
The pigmentation of this eyeliner is also wonderful, and if you want to read my full review, I do encourage it. While I have a brown liquid liner in my stash to work through next, I hope GOSH don’t discontinue this line of eyeliners, as I’d love to repurchase this shade and try out other shades too.
A product you may be familiar with from my blog is The Body Shop Brow Definer in the shade ‘Dark Brown‘. I reviewed this in the past and it’s also appeared in an empties post, as this is the backup I accidentally bought a while ago. I’m a little upset that I’ve worked through this backup so fast, but I’m happy that I know I love this product as much as I do. My mum regularly compliments me on how my brows look, and this is the brow pencil I’ve been using lately to lay down the foundations for other brow products to work on top of. I’d definitely repurchase this product in the future, but I do have some other brow pencils in my stash that I’ll test out first.
I expect both of these pencils to end up in February’s empties, so don’t be surprised if these get mention again the near future. Otherwise, thank you for taking the time to read my blog post. It means a lot to me to receive your support. I’m still in a transitional phase with testing out products, so things are a little slow, but I’m slowly accumulating products to talk about, so thank you for being patient with me. In the meantime, I hope you are happy and healthy, and I’ll speak to you again soon.
