Happy Wednesday! After enjoying curating and writing up my Benched Skincare Products post, I wanted to share the makeup products that are also benched right now. The premise is the same: these are products that are currently not being used in my makeup collection, but are products that I want to make use of at the right time, for reasons I’ll talk about as I go through them.
I’ve decided to exclude eyeshadow palettes, as I went through a phase where I opened quite a few, but my process is to work through one palette at a time, so I plan to just review palettes as I work through them or add them to my magnetic eyeshadow palette as I pick out the shades I like. However, if you are curious to see them, let me know and I might reconsider. Eyeshadow palettes are relatively bulky which is another reason why I’m treating them a bit differently – my eye shadow singles however are easier to swap out and keep my collection organised, so I have included them instead.
To start off this potentially long post, I’m starting with my only face-base product, which is the Laneige BB Cushion in the shade ‘No. 13 True Beige‘. This is in one of the older packaging, and I also have a refill. I don’t really wear a full face of base makeup right now as I’m enjoying just spot-concealing the areas that need it. So this is a product that’s just waiting for the right occasions to be used. I’ve used up the sponge that came in the compact, but I’ve left it in there for now until I reach for it again to replace the sponge to keep the refill fresh. If I can, I want to clean up the old one to reuse and make my own custom-BB/CC cushion, but that’s something I plan to wait for when I’m ready to do it. I did write a first impression a while ago when I tried out a sample of it, so if you’re curious what my initial thoughts were, I encourage you to read it.
Moving to cheek products, I have a few that I’ve put on the bench for now. You might be familiar with the first, which is the Limited Collection Blusher in the shade ‘Apricot‘. This is a gorgeous peachy-pink shade that I like to reach for in the spring and summer months, so I have this set aside for when the seasons change. I’ve had this active in my makeup collection for a couple of years (it still performs well enough in spite of this) and it looks like I’ve barely made a dent. I picked mine up from Marks & Spencer, but the brand seems to have re-branded itself a bit, so I’m not sure if you can find this product anymore or if they’ve just repackaged it. I’ve talked about this product before on my blog, so if you’re curious for my opinions, I encourage you to read my review on it and one other shade I previously owned.
The second blush is a nostalgic product for me as I picked this up during my trip to Canada and America a few years ago, which is the Physicians Formula Mineral Makeup Airbrushing Blusher in the shade ‘Natural‘. I love this blush but it’s a shade I see myself wearing more during the spring and summer because of how it appears on my cheeks. So this is another blush that is just waiting for the right time to be pulled out and used.
One more powder blush I’ve put aside is The Body Shop All-In-One Cheek Colour Blush in the shade ‘Bubblegum‘ which is a very spring sort of tone in my opinion. So I want to pull this shade out when spring time rolls around and appreciate that cute cool-toned pop of colour.
A break from my usual trend is a cream-based blush, which is the W7 Chunky Cheeks Blush in the shade ‘New York‘. I normally don’t use cream-based products, but I’ve found this one to be relatively easy to work with, but it’s not a shade I think looks as good as an autumnal or winter shade. So I want to try this shade out again during the spring or summer and see how my skin behaves with the formula then.
Shifting over to eyeshadow singles, I have a couple from Seventeen who are no longer around. I have two of the Eye Eye Shadow singles kept aside at the moment, which are the shades ‘Statuesque‘ and ‘Funfair‘ from left to right. ‘Statuesque‘ is a shade I have a duplicate of in older packaging (I know, not only is the brand no longer in production, but I have older packaging of their products too…) which I’ve put in my collection to be used up first. So I’ll pull this shade back out if I somehow manage to use up the first pan. ‘Funfair’ is a shade that comparing to my existing shadows I actually decided to put back into my collection for the time being as I’m struggling to find the eyeshadow shade I initially found to be overlapping it that made me put it on the bench to begin with. So I’m including it in here anyway since it was on the bench for a long time and it may return here if my memory is jogged.
The last eyeshadow is a NYX Nude Matte Eyeshadow single in the shade ‘Underneath It All‘. I have four other singles from this line in my collection right now, and this is a shade I found overlaps a bit with one of the dark matte brown shades from the Collection Nudes Eyes Palette that I de-potted recently. So I want to work through the pan from that palette first, then pull this in when it’s done.
Moving to lip products as the last section, I have a few that I’ve put aside. I have my two shades in the Rimmel Moisture Renew Sheer & Shine Lipstick in the shades ‘200 Glow-rious Pink‘ and ‘300 Pink Rules‘. They’re shades that have that spring and summer vibe for me when I wear them on the lips, so I’ve set them aside for now while I work through other lip products that are more autumnal and winter appropriate for me.
The final product that I’ve benched is the MUA Sweet Sheen Lip Balm in the shade ‘Coral Reef‘. It looks more pinky-toned in person, but it’s a shade I consider to be more on the summery side, so I plan to check this product is still in-date when summer rolls around and take it from there. I use the shade ‘Cherry Bomb‘ when I need to pop out to run quick errands, so I know I enjoy the formula enough, so I just need to wait for the right time of year for me to use it. I checked the brand’s store and it’s a shame they’ve discontinued it, but I’m hoping they might bring it back for the summer time as these are great lightweight formulas with a nice wash of colour if you want something low maintenance, so it’s a shame they’re not available.
And that concludes the makeup products that are benched at the moment. This is a system I look over periodically throughout the year as the seasons change, my tastes change, etc, and it lets me streamline my makeup so I actually work through products and get closer to actually using them up, and preventing waste. My goal is to have as few products on the bench, like this, but have only the products I truly enjoy being actively used as well as being ones that fit my habits and tastes in the given moment. Having products set aside keeps my makeup collection looking and feeling less cluttered, so I make more instinctive choices and worry less over ‘sharing’ my time on products I’m not in the mood to use yet. I enjoy the process of wearing makeup more this way, and I encourage people to try a system like this if you feel overwhelmed and see if it works for you as well.
With that said, thank you for taking the time to read my blog post, as always it means a lot to me to receive your support. I hope you are happy and healthy, and I hope I speak to you again soon.
