Moving on to part three, today I’m going to talk about the lip products I’m throwing away. These are all due to age, but I want to talk about what gravitated me to them to begin with and what my general experience was with them.
The first ones I want to talk about are the Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains which were very popular a few years ago. I picked up multiple shades back in the day, and three of them have since gone bad, although one still remains in my collection. I absolutely loved how soft and subtle these shades can be in one layer, but can also be layered up to an extent for more intense colour. I personally enjoyed blotting them to be a soft stain by adding layers up to reach the level of pigmentation I want, but being more like a stain than the initial glossy texture when you first apply.
I want to include swatches where possible too, but you can see where these shades are starting to get clumpy and a bit off. The formula used to be a bit more liquid-y so I’m throwing out the shades ‘020 Rio Rush‘, ‘005 Parisian Passion‘ and ‘045 New York Scene‘ from my collection.
In their prime these were gorgeous shades on the lips, but I don’t trust them to be safe to apply on the lips anymore. I still have the shade ‘001 India Intrigue‘ in my collection for the time being. I expect it to likely go off by the end of the year, so I will be keeping a close eye on it, so it will highly likely show up in a future empties post.
Next are the remaining Revlon Color Burst Lip Butters from my collection. I owned around 8 shades back in the day, and slowly decluttered these for various reasons. These were really fun and easy to wear back in the day, and really popular with me during sixth form and university. If these were still being retailed I’d repurchase a few shades, however Revlon stopped making these so I will be saying a permanent goodbye to these.
So the shades I’m removing from my collection are ‘053 Sorbet‘, ‘063 Wild Watermelon‘ and ‘040 Red Velvet‘. Sorbet was a bit outside of my comfort zone because of how bright the shade was, but it was also easy to tone down and create a gradient lip look from which made this shade more accessible for me. Wild Watermelon was a fun summery shade and one I wore from time to time this summer. Red Velvet was a shade that I remember not initially being released in the UK and desperately wanted it for a while. I love having burgundy shades in my collection and really enjoyed using this from time to time. It was a bit warmer than my normal preferences, but it wasn’t super unflattering on me.
Two lip products I’ve held onto far longer than I should have are the Collection Gothic Glam Lipsticks. The packaging is quite simple and plain, but that’s not something that particularly bothered me. These have lived longer in my collection than absolutely necessary because the part of me that wanted to be brave enough to wear these often never emerged.
The shades are called ‘Seduction 1‘ and ‘Revenge 3‘. Both of these shades are gorgeous but being the insecure numpty that I am, I didn’t give these the love and attention they deserved. They were very creamy but also very matte, so great for vampy or Halloween-inspired makeup, but I’ve owned these for a few years so it’s time I let them go.
The last section are lip products I can’t really section of, starting off with the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, which was a product I deliberated over for a long time before purchasing it. I distinctly remember my mum seeing me eye this up in a Boots store in Exeter where she convinced me to go for it, which obviously I did. So this is a highly nostalgic product for me, but the texture is starting to get grainy which tells me it’s starting to go off.
The NYC Expert Last Lip Color is a lip product I picked up after listening to the recommendation from a YouTuber many years ago. I think the swatch of this is gorgeous, but on my lips it looks strange. I considered passing this on to mum but it’s been quite a few years since I bought it, so I don’t feel confident passing this on to anyone else.
Last of all is a product I’ve mentioned a few times over the past year particularly, but also an old purchase, which is the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick. I love the formula for the Creme formulas, but due to age and a slightly gritty texture I think it’s time to throw this one out.
So the shades for these three lipsticks are ‘005 Crush‘, ‘404 Air Kiss‘ and ‘415 Pink In the Afternoon‘ in order. I apologise for the poor quality of the photo, but my camera refused to focus no matter how much effort I made.
All of these shades are gorgeous to me, especially Air Kiss, but it looked very strange on my lips. Crush was a really approachable formula and build-able pigmentation for anyone like me who is intimidated by very intense lip shades, but it does have shimmer in it which I’m not longer a fan of. Pink In the Afternoon is a beautiful warm-toned pink and I used it a little bit this summer before I started to notice the formula changing. It’s slightly warmer than I prefer of my pink shades, but it wasn’t too far warm that I couldn’t make it work.
So these are the lip products empties of August 2018. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog post. I have one more empties post tomorrow, so I hope you’ll read that post as well. In the mean time, I hope you are happy and healthy, and I’ll speak to you again very soon.
